Central Ohio Carpetball Society

4/3/2014 Updated Post: National Carpetball Association Endorsement

Please note that the posting system used on this website may be difficult to navigate. To see recent happenings, you can find the “Recent Posts” in the navigation on the right side at the page, or wrapped to the very bottom of the website. We plan to move away from the posts to static content in the near future to eliminate some of this confusion.

Currently operating weekly NCA sanctioned Carpetball games, the Central Ohio Carpetball Society is dedicated to professional and amateur Carpetball throughout Central Ohio and bringing fun and innovation to the sport.

For FREE information on building your own Carpetball table, see the National Carpetball Association website for details. Check out our posts for details and photos related to our very own Carpetball table, as seen below. Over time, we plan to publish more information related to how we play the game and ideas for game modifiers to naturally enhance your Carpetball experience.

Carpetball Table

Carpetball Table

I often refer to our table as our prototype because it is our very first table build, built with some mismatched parts and some roadside finds. We expect to be building new tables as time goes by with many lessons learned from our first project. This table will always be near and dear to our hearts.

Carpetball 3d: The Game

If you are not ready to take on the challenge of building your own table, in our spare time, we are developing Carpetball 3d: The Game to ensure everyone can have a realistic Carpetball experience from the comfort of their own home. Though the real thing can never be duplicated, we are certainly going to try our best.

Controversies

According to the National Carpetball Association, the correct name for our sport is Carpetball. While the names Carpet Ball and Gutter Ball have been tossed around, our society agrees that these are incorrect when referring to our sport. It is also the opinion of the C.O.C.S. that neither Carpet Ball nor Gutter Ball are appropriate terms to describe the skilled sport of Carpetball. See: Controversies
It has also recently come to our attention that Carpetball is also known in some circles as Torpedo Ball.

Search Trends

We hope that, over time, we can show that we have made a difference. In March 2014, we founded the Central Ohio Carpetball Society and expect to see an uptick in search trends as we spread the word and get more and more people excited and interested in learning more about this wonderful sport.

  1. I am considering making a table like the one you have on the website. Have you had any trouble with the hardware, seen need for modifications, gotten any helpful feedback, or made any changes?
    thanks for any input

    • Our table has worked out very well and is based on the free plans available from http://www.carpetball.org. When folded and upright, it fits in a small area in the garage. We have had a regularly scheduled “Carpetball Wednesday” almost every week for nearly a year and a half and the table has held up very well despite our combined entry-level woodworking experience.

We used a thicker pile carpet like what you would typically find in a living room and have been very happy with it. In the near future, we plan to document the many game modifiers we have come up with to keep the game new and exciting.

A couple very minor changes we have made are:
      1. Used chalkboard paint on a small section on each side to keep score
      2. Painted a foul line on each end to indicate where balls can be placed as well as support some of game modifiers, such as Five Star Drop
